Learning Styles

Research Learning Style Systems

Hello I am going to explain different types of learning styles so you can see which one can apply to you. Learning styles are all different e.g. visual, listening and physical learning by touching things and doing.

Active –

An active learner is best by explaining something to others, discussing it among others, or even in group work. They also find it difficult to sit in lectures just taking notes and require interaction.

Reflective –

A reflective learner understands information best by thinking about it first. They like to think it through first and prefer working alone. They also need thinking time during lectures.

Sensing –

A sensing learner likes to learn facts, solve problems using established methods and they do not like complications and surprises. They also tend to be patient with details and are good at memorizing facts and doing hands on work e.g. projects and labs.

Intuitive –

An intuitive learner prefers relationships and discovering possibilities. They also would prefer innovation and new ideas and don’t like repetition. They tend to work faster but may be more careless because they’re innovative.

Visual –

A visual learner tries to find diagrams, sketches, schematics etc. when studying they put down key points and circle them so they stand out and they can remember them easier. They also colour code their notes so that the related topics are in the same colour.

Verbal –

A verbal learner when they study they write summaries and outlines the course material in their own words. They also try to work in groups where the members explain ideas and concept. You will learn even more when you do the explaining.

Sequential –

A sequential learner will like to learn from different topics throughout the class and skipping steps and asking themselves to fill in the answers from the skipped steps. They also may not be able to understand fully but are still able to solve problems and pass tests.

Global –

A global learner seems to learn in large jumps and absorbing material randomly without seeing connections then suddenly understanding it. They also might have difficulty in explaining their knowledge.
